Northern Ireland U21 international Mitchell has been offered the chance to sign fresh terms after a season which has seen the 21-year-old keeper – who has been with Burnley since 2012 – play regularly for the under-23s, train with the senior set-up and gain first-team experience on loan at Chester FC.

Stone, meanwhile, has signed a new 12-month deal after a positive first season with the Clarets.

The former England Schools international, 18, who joined the Clarets from non-league side Brocton at the end of last season, has shared under-23 duties with Mitchell and also played occasionally for the under-18s.

In addition, third-year scholars Mark Howarth, an 18-year-old midfielder, and winger Tunde Bayode, 19, have also been offered professional deals – following on from Ollie Younger, Dwight McNeil and James Clarke, who have all signed first professional contracts, and Ali Koiki, who has signed a new 12-month deal.

“They have all deserved those professional deals and the chance to develop their careers further at Burnley,” said Academy Manager Jonathan Pepper.

“The same goes for the others whose stays have been extended and we look forward to them kicking on next season with the under-23s and, hopefully, in the future at senior level.

“Inevitably there are also players leaving us and we hope they have benefitted from their time at Burnley and can go on and enjoy successful careers elsewhere.”

Defender Scott Wilson, 18, has had his scholarship extended into a third year to stay on in the Clarets’ Academy, but a handful of young professionals are to be released at the end of the season.

Sam Layton, Rahis Nabi, Harry Limb, Khius Metz, Lewis King, Jordan Barnett, Arlen Birch, Brad Jackson and Jamie Thomas will be leaving Turf Moor.

Former Spennymoor United forward Craig Ellison, 17, has also left the club, while five scholars have also been told they will not be kept on.

Third-years, goalkeeper Connor King and striker Tommy Wood, have not been offered professional deals.

And second-years Leighton Egan, Kwazinkosi Mpofu and Tristan Jumeau are also being released.

Burnley Football Club thanks those leaving Turf Moor for their contributions during their time with the Clarets and wishes them well in their future careers.
